President Tom Swan's opening comments on the upcoming Rotary Year.

Our new President, Tom Swan, presented the Club with his vision for the 2011-2012 year.  Tom would like to create a public relations and social media machine.  He has enlisted the help of Danielle Brinkman who will be giving the Club a Facebook presence, and Jeff Hata who will be assisting with implementing Club Runner and updating the Club’s website.  Tom would like to focus his year on boosting membership and believes that these tools will be key in accomplishing that goal.

Tom explained that there will be a few changes in the format of the meetings.  First, there will be a slide show presented during the lunch portion of the meeting.  This will help give potential (and new) members a better idea of the type of projects that we have.  Also, Bill Spellman will be randomly (and with no notice) calling on a member to give a brief vocational minute at each meeting.

Tom commented that he likes the Club, and some of us!  He originally joined Rotary so that Rich Stewart would stop bugging him to become a member, and so that he could make a difference in his community.  His love of helping people led him not only to a career in financial planning, but also to Rotary.

Tom stated that he does not feel like the Club communicates very well internally or externally.  He would like to improve upon this, especially by creating a consistent message to the community and prospective members.

Tom stressed that Rotary is about family and that our Club needs to invite and involve our members’ families on a greater scale.  We truly want everyone to brag about Rotary!

Thank you Tom for inspiring the Club.  We look forward to accomplishing great things under your leadership.
