Joe Strohman interviewed President Elect Tim Hughes

Joe Strohman interviewed our President-Elect, Tim Hughes.  Tim relayed some interesting facts about him and his wife, Peg, and why it is a miracle that the two of them are even alive.  Apparently, both of their fathers served in World War II.  Peg’s father was a Squadron Commander and flew 52 missions.  It is amazing that he survived through all of those missions.  Tim’s Dad was on a military ship near Japan.  The first nuclear bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6th, the second nuclear bomb was dropped on Nagasaki on August 9th, and Tim’s father’s ship docked in the bay at Nagasaki on August 13, 2012.

Born in San Francisco in 1952, Tim was the third of five children.  He spent most of his childhood in Salinas, California.  During his tenure at a boys’ catholic high school, Tim played football, baseball, basketball, and golf.  Tim recalls that he worked in the strawberry fields for a short time during high school.  Caesar Chavez had closed the strawberry fields so the farms recruited students to do the work.

Upon graduation from high school in 1970, Tim did not have to go to Vietnam because he had a lucky lottery number.  It turns out that the military would likely not have accepted him anyway due to a knee injury.

Tim went on to Loyola University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology.  One of Tim’s roommates in college was Vince O’Neill who is a Ventura Superior Court Judge.  Another roommate was Jerry Stone who went on to play professional baseball.  Tim met his wife in college.  Peg’s college roommate was Mary O’Connell who is Alfred Hitchcock’s granddaughter.

Tim and Peg got married in 1975 and relocated to Ventura in 1978.  One year after moving to Ventura, Tim got his real estate license and has been selling real estate ever since.  He estimates that he has sold over 600 homes.

Tim has three children:  John, Brian, and Kelly, all of whom are now adults.  Tim also has two grandchildren.

Tim is looking forward to having a lot of fun during his tenure as President of the Club.  We can’t wait!

Thanks Joe and Tim.
