Membership Committee Meeting Minutes

Membership Committee Meeting Minutes 01-24-2012:

First, I want to express my sincerest gratitude to those that were able to attend the Membership Committee Meeting including Jim Word, Midge, Jeff Hata, Carole, Tom Swan, and Husam. This meeting was held at the Wine Rack in downtown Ventura. It was a warm welcome to have a glass of wine over a committee meeting and we had several engaging conversations.

As a committee and club, we have a big goal, to grow and retain membership. During Tom’s year, our goal is to grow membership by 15! Yes, I know it’s a bit lofty, but what fun is there in setting low expectations.  To date, we have grown 3 new members! Great job!

Next, I’d like to review what some of our responsibilities are as Membership Committee. We greet and introduce guests weekly, coordinate socials for the club, hold orientations for new members, and initiate public relations both print and internet.

In review, when we are introducing Guests/Visiting Rotarians, please ask the Guest or Visiting Rotarian to stand so the entire club can place a face with a name. Also, please make an effort to briefly introduce the Program speaker. The speaker will of course have a much more appropriate introduction by the Program chairs, but this is an additional opportunity for us to acknowledge our wonderful speaker.

Carole Marquez-Olsen has been relinquished of her attendance taking responsibility. It is VERY important you scan your badge or the badge sheet to log your attendance. If you are not able to attend Rotary and need to report a make-up, you must email Ken Kagan to let him know when and where you made up. Otherwise, you will be charged the full cost of lunch. Attendance and notification to Ken (the Secretary) are our own responsibilities. If you want to ensure you are not charged the full price, you need to notify Ken.

Reminders:

·         Our Fat Tuesday club Social at Main Course is coming up on February  21^st. There is no sign up sheet, you can and must sign up online via Clubrunner. There will be wonderful Cajun food and cocktails and it is sure to be a “see and be seen” social! Remember, guests and family is always welcome! To date we have 12 people signed up.

·         Please update Clubrunner with your contact information and pictures. I just recently downloaded the Clubrunner App on my iPhone and it has already proved to be a wonderful contact source. You can also read our Program Notes on the Clubrunner App just in case you miss Rotary during the week.

New Member Review:

·         With any luck, the Board will approve Cecilio Murillo, Chief Operating Officer at Easter Seal’s application to join our Club this week! So, please help me in welcoming Cecilio to our Club!

·         Rick Shimmel and Al Jonas are making headlines already with their diligent participation in Club events and I’d like to extend my personal thank you for making our Club better!

Departing Member Review:

·         Unfortunately, Kristina Dangleman’s husband, needed to take a transfer to Hawaii (he’s in the military) and we’ve lost a valuable and new member. We will miss you Katrina!

·         Also, Lee Alby has resigned and we hope you will all continue to keep in contact with Lee.
