Meeting May 4, 2017

Joe Strohman led us in the Flag Salute.

 

President Husam gave our Inspirational Message.

 

President Husam acknowledged the club members who participated in the Rotarian's at Work Day at the Botanical Gardens. It was estimated that 2 truck loads of weeds were removed from the trails that morning. Great job everyone!!!

 

We had 3 guests of the club today. They were David Morris, Greg Jones and Bill Klope.

 

Announcements:

Jordan Eller reported that we had 15 scholarship applications turned in. Scholarship interviews will be starting on May 15th and Jordan will need a few volunteers to help directing the students at the interview location.

 

Jordan Eller also reported on the Rotary Site at the Ventura Botanical Gardens project. We need $125,000 to break ground on the project. Ventura-South's Foundation has approved a $50,000 donation to the project with the agreement that Ventura-East's and Downtown's Foundations match this donation within 2 years. Downtown's Foundation has agreed to match so our Foundation needs to decide what they want to do.

 

President Husam reminded the board that the next board meeting will be Wednesday May 10th. Todd Juvonen said that the next Community Service meeting will be at Rotaract's Pizza Fundraiser.

 

Joke of the day was given by Jeff Hata followed by John Borneman.

 

John Borneman then led us in our song of the day.

 

Joe Strohman let us know that next Thursday's meeting would be Student of the Quarter and the 4 Way Test Essay contest awards.

 

Joe Strohman also reminded Avenue of Service Directors to turn in their District Awards forms.
