President's Announcements
Can anyone could pick up and take Andy Corliss back to his home in Camarillo for Rotary? Andy can no longer drive and misses his weekly Rotary meeting.
 
The Downtown club needs volunteers for the fireworks on the 4th of July at the college. They are looking for 10 - 15 volunteers. If you can do this let President Bruce know.
 
The Board of Director's meeting has been canceled for June 2nd. Too many people are on vacation or partying in Korea.
 
June 18th is the Board Retreat at Hishmeh Enterprises.
 
Dave Anderson spoke about the Step Down dinner and asked everyone to check the lists and sign up if you haven't done so already. We need a head count for the caterer. We want to bring some formality back to our Step Downs so this will be a business casual event.
 
Guests today were: Guest of Jeff Hata was Kris Hansen, guest of Pete Gallagher was Donna Turner and guest of Joe Strohman was Hannah Strohman.
 
Rocky Ludes spoke about Bob Beckwith. Bob joined the Downtown club in 1955 and then joined Ventura-East shortly after. Bob was very interested in our youth and vocational service in particular. Bob revised his estate plan and left the Rotary Club of Ventura-East's foundation $1.9 million to be used exclusively for scholarships. Rocky is the trustee of Bob's trust and is in the final phases of closing out Bob's estate. Today Rocky presented the Foundation a check for another $65,000.
 
Midge Stork announced that the raffle prize was a gift card to Aloha Steakhouse! Midge asked for everyone to help out and buy tickets because Husam was not here today!!!
 
It was announced that Jim Emch will chair the Fourth of July Push-em Pull-em parade.
 
Joe Strohman asked for employee of the quarter nominations.
 
President Bruce read off a list of members who had Paul Harris Fellows available. The club is asking for members who have Paul Harris's available to donate your points to the club so we can give some PHF's at the Step Down. If you would like to donate your points, please see President Bruce.
 
Tim Hughes acknowledged Jordan Eller for his work on the scholarship process.
 
Jordan told us that we had a total of 21 applicants and we will award 15 scholarships ranging from $500 - $5,000. Jordan was especially proud that the Valedictorians from all 3 high schools were awarded scholarships. We will be awarding the scholarships on June 2nd.
 
John Masterson took a few moments to introduce us to one of our newest members Mike Martin.
