Mark Corbin Smith
April 13, 1930 - May 20, 2014

Mark Corbin Smith, or more fondly known as “Pastor”, was ushered into Glory after a brief and sudden illness in Ventura, California on Tuesday, May 20, 2014. He was 84 years old.

Pastor Smith had been a resident of Ventura for over 48 years; serving the community through his time with seemingly endless energy and a steadfast relationship with the Lord. Pastor Smith was born on April 13, 1930, in Chula Vista, California. He became a pastor and college chaplain in Orange County. Pastor Smith moved to Ventura back in the 1970s and became the pastor of Trinity Community Church. He was an ordained Presbyterian minister; active in Rotary International Club in many ways (including decorating the floats every year for the Rose Parade), and the Interact Club through Buena High School.

Pastor Smith was passionate about teaching students the ministry of Christ throughout the years, including helping college students at Azusa Pacific University and Westmont College, among others. Some of the things that he will be remembered for will be his love for glorifying God through music; whether it was leading worship by the singing of hymns, or playing the piano and organ at church, in the homes of others, or at the retirement homes. Pastor Smith’s greatest passion, however, was that all people would come to salvation through Jesus Christ and into a relationship with Almighty God, and he did this by helping others and bringing joy to those in need of comfort, conviction, and compassion through the love of Jesus Christ.

Pastor Smith, or Uncle Corbin as his family called him, is survived by his loving sister, June; nephews, niece, great-nephews and great-nieces. According to him, “Christ’s strength is made perfect in my weakness” and there is comfort and peace in knowing that he has met his Creator face to face; no more suffering, no more pain, and that the joy of the Lord was his strength. Although he will be greatly missed we celebrate in knowing that the Lord has commended his spirit and that heaven has gained another faithful servant of Jesus Christ.
