Dear Rotarians and Friends,
Our speaker this week is  local author with at least one best seller on Amazon so far.  Connie Hood  draws from a rich and often incredible trove of family memoirs and experience.“Islands of Deception: Lying with the Enemy”, is an historical novel based on a family member’s narrative of his time as a military intelligence operative in WWII.   Her most recent publication: Into Dark corridors:  A Tale of Hands, Heart, and Home,  chronicles her quest and accomplishment in saving a 1909 “abandoned masterpiece”  by moving it piece by piece to a new home. Along the way she finds a new love with whom to embark on the 25 year restoration process.  “A story of risk and commitment, catastrophes and small miracles weaves itself into a tale of resilience.”  Sure to be an engaging, inspiring and entertaining program!  An excellent opportunity to  invite a friend to join us for lunch.

Last week Michelle (Mikyung) Zdybowicz from Jeden Biosciences educated us about the role composting at the home and commercial level plays in reducing our carbon use and healing our environment. And how this is a stepping stone to creating change across the world.  Michelle and her team are working on a District Grant to partner with schools to utilize commercial grade food waste composting to augment or initiate gardens and environmental awareness. (A Rotary family discount applies for the countertop unit which several members reported works great, is efficient, and requires little attention to transform food waste into soil amendment.) How fortunate we are to have her as a member of our club.   In recognition of her commitment to the mission of Rotary and her involvement and dedication to the Club, Bruce presented Michelle with a Paul Harris Fellow award.

At a previous meeting several of you expressed interest in becoming a member of the Polio Plus Society which is a commitment of $100/year until Polio is eradicated. For information and to enroll:    https://rotarydistrict5240.org/page/polioplus-society

The Butterfly Wine, Beer, Food Festival fundraiser we do in partnership with the Girl Scouts is not until June 8, but the time to ask for sponsorships starts now.  Flyers are on the tables at each meeting and will be included on our club website.  Also, consider getting certified as a food/beverage server.  See Cal for more information.

Next week is our Club Social.  Details will be announced on Thursday.

The Calendar:
Feb 15 – social, TBA
Feb 22 – Sonny Horses 4 Kids, equestrian therapy

See you on Thursday.
